You know when you want to act like you're strong and act like you don't need any help?
For example: You are about to carry that HUGE BOX up the stairs...without help! In your mind, you are thinking, "I don't know. I don't want to ask for help though. It'll make me seem kind of weak," but out loud, you seem to be screaming that you can do it! You've got 'guns'... lol
In Exodus 18, it seems like it...Moses sat down to judge the people. He was doing it by himself when his father in law, Jethro, came up to him and said that he could not do this alone. He would get burnt out. He wouldn't have enough time and energy to talk and solve all the problems these people had. SURELY he couldn't do it on his own!
(Exodus 18)
"(14)And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said What [is] this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?"
Why does he do it??
Moses answered saying, "(15)...Because the people come unto me to enquire of God, (16)When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make [them] know the statutes of God, and his laws."
What does Jethro have to say about it??
"(17)...The thing that thou doest [is] not good. (18)Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that [is] with thee: for this thing [is] too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone."
It is NOT GOOD...
"(19)Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God: (20)And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do. (21) Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place [such] over them, [to be] rulers of thousands, [and] rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: (22)And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, [that] every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear [the burden] with thee."
Moses' father in law told him to GET HELP!!!
Wait!! WHAT!?! He told MOSES!? The one who led the people out of Egypt!?
Yes, him...
Don't you think that if Moses couldn't do it by himself, that we can't do it by ourselves either? We can't bear these huge loads upon us without help. No matter how strong you think you are, there will always come a time when you need help...either physically lifting THAT box or spiritually bearing a burden.
Ask for help. Don't try to ACT tough...sooner or later, you are going to be burnt out because of your foolishness :p
